This time Manitou chose mysterious artist 616 to channel the spirit of house music's yesteryear, with three classy tracks that reflect the heyday of the mid 1990s. The label described the release as 'fresh old school for the new school' - or something to that effect - and we think we get where they're coming from! The hypnotic and emotive A side cut features some super dusty and compressed beats and airy pads, powering away beneath a sublime harpsichord melody. On the flip, the B1 track spells party time with its hands in the air church organ melody, chunky Juno bass and pumpin' 808 rhythms. He goes for a UK rave zeitgeist flavour on the final cut, which sounds like something you'd hear while loved up at a seminal rave under the M25 motorway outside of London circa 95, breakbeats and all. We're loving what this label is doing on its fourth release.
